Kenya: The ScenaRio 2012 team takes part in the 23rd board meeting of UN-Habitat

The Scenario 2012 team took part in the 23rd board meeting of the UN’s Agency for Human Settlements (UN-Habitat), which was held at the headquarters of the organization in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya, on 11th to the 15th of April and which treated about urban sustainable development.

The board of directors is a subsidiary organ of the General Assembly of the United Nations and constitutes Un-Habitat’s decision making intergovernmental organ. It is accountable via the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to the General Assembly.

A strategic meeting of the private sector was held on Thursday 14th April. During this meeting, Mr. Joan Clos, UN-Habitat’s new executive director, former Mayor of Barcelona and former Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism presented his vision on the future of towns. The participants engaged in a constructive dialogue on the main challenges of sustainable urbanization and reasserted their engagement with supporting UN-Habitat’s efforts to meet those challenges.

In accordance with Resolution 14, adopted by the board meeting and in the context of a more inclusive governance for the habitat program partners (nine official partners, including the private sector), the participants agreed on a road map aiming at establishing a Urban Private Sector Advisory Board (UPSAB), which will promote cooperation and partnerships between private sector entities and the UN-Habitat through dialog and the development of concrete partnerships, in particular for expertise and information provision.
